This week Shlomo Artzi’s column summoned me through his words, to a meeting with the War of Attrition (‘Hatasha’ in Hebrew). The work on the illustration led me to view photographed testimonies from the war, and to study its history. I remained battered by the stories of that war. The terrible pain dwells in the knowledge of the loss of life and the terrible and prolonged injury to the lives of many who live among us, hurt and wounded. The difficulty and the sadness lay in recognition that folly continues its march towards the next war, which is described in the national discourse as certain and inevitable.
